The Road

Although it is the peak of the hurricane season, the best months for landscape photography on Saba in the Dutch Caribbean are usually September and October, boasting the clearest views. From certain locations on The Road, you’ll easily spot the islands of St. Eustatius, St. Kitts and Nevis in the background. In rare occasions, even Montserrat can be seen vaguely. ”The Road that could not be built” is an engineering marvel, initiated by the self taught civil engineer and Saba native, Lambert “Lambee” Hassell. A monument in his honor has been placed half way, between the villages of St. John’s and Windwardside.
